COLUMBUS — Two state lawmakers want to name a portion of U.S. 30 in Hancock County after late Congressman Mike Oxley.

Rep. Robert Sprague and Sen. Cliff Hite, both Findlay Republicans, held a press conference Friday afternoon announcing the introduction of House Bill 430 which will designate a section of U.S. 30 as the “Congressman Michael G. Oxley Memorial Highway.”

Oxley, a former congressman from Findlay, died Jan. 1. He represented Ohio’s 4th congressional district, which included Hardin County, from 1981 until 2007. He was also a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 1973 to 1981.

“Congressman Oxley was a man of the people, and he never forgot where he came from. When I first came back to Findlay, I attended his farewell event. I remember him getting choked up when he referred to his hometown as the bright shining city on the hill,” Sprague said.

“He made Route 30 a priority and was the driving force behind getting it done. Route 30 has kept people safer as they traveled across our great state and provided access for economic development for businesses.”

House Bill 430 will soon be assigned to a committee for further discussion.
