Girls soccer teams learn pairings Posted on October 9, 2023 0 By SEAN BLEVINS Times sports editor Area girls soccer teams now know who they will be matched up with after playoff draws took place Sunday. Kenton took the ninth-seed to set up a first-round Western Buckeye League rematch at second-seeded St. Marys on Oct. 17 at 5 p.m. The victor gets to play third-seed Bryan on Oct. 21 at noon for a Division II Northwest District sectional championship. First-year Kenton coach Toby Brown said they are well prepared for St. Marys and looking forward to the challenge. The Lady Wildcats (1-14) were beaten 7-1 by St. Marys on Sept. 28, but they played a solid first half against them. “I felt good about how we came out of the gates in that game,” Brown said. “We were pushing them at the beginning. They got two breakaways in the first half where we misjudged the ball. Aerial Fast scored four goals on us, so we will pay attention to her and try to limit her output. St. Marys is a good team. We know it will be a tough fight, but I’m confident in our abilities. We are playing much better than we were at the start of the year.” Riverdale got the fourth seed and Ada the fifth in the Division III Bluffton District, which Riverdale won last year. Ada hosts seventh-seeded Galion in a play-in game on Oct. 17 at 5 p.m. for the right to visit top-seeded Van Buren on Oct. 19 at 5 p.m. Riverdale selected a home game with ninth-seeded Cory-Rawson on Oct. 19 at 5 p.m. Ada, Galion or Van Buren will await the winner of the aforementioned game. In the Division II Southwest 1 District, seventh-seeded Ben Logan will be at Kenton Ridge on Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. Third-seeded Springfield Northwestern will challenge whoever wins that first-round Central Buckeye Conference showdown.
