Falcons build early lead, top Pirates Posted on May 2, 2024 0 MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale built an early lead and took a 10-3 victory against Bluffton in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday at Riverdale. The Falcons (16-3) scored twice in the first inning and three times in the second to lead 5-1. A four-run fourth inning gave them an eight-run advantage. “Our guys have been doing a good job of getting into good hitter’s counts,” Riverdale coach Drew Bostic said. “If they fall behind, they do a good job of making the opposing pitcher battle, and we’ve won a lot of those fights at the plate. Even the outs that we made, we had a lot of unselfish outs that don’t’ show up in the stat sheet.” Evan Reiter had a triple among three hits, drove in three runs and scored three runs. Alex Russler singled, scored and had two RBIs. Riverdale’s pitching got the job done by committee to keep pitchers eligible during a long week. Cam Furr (4-2) got the win with two strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings. Gauge King went two innings, Lex Weber pitched 1 1/3 innings, and Jackson Armrose got the final four outs. “All three of the guys that came in in relief came in with a runner on base or in the middle of an at-bat, but they’re doing what they need to do for the team,” Bostic said. The defense got the job done behind them, making 19 plays with the pitchers totaling only two strikeouts. Evan Speicher singled twice with an RBI, while Jacob Granger had two hits for Bluffton (7-8). Brody Anderson was the losing pitcher with two strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings. Score by innings Bluffton 010 011 0 — 3 8 3 Riverdale 230 401 x — 10 6 2 WP: Furr (4-2); LP: Anderson. 3B: Reiter (R).
