3 area girls soccer players earn All-NCOSA 1st-team honors

Riverdale’s Eden Barnes and Eden Morris, as well as Ada’s Ella Marshall earned girls All-North Central Ohio Soccer Association first-team honors as released Thursday morning.

Barnes, a senior center back, has scored two goals and one assist, while Morris, a junior defensive midfielder, has scored one goal with one assist. More importantly, they have helped the Falcons give up just 11 goals this season — an average of 0.65 per match.

Marshall, a senior forward, had a record-setting season with 21 goals and 11 assists to help Ada tie its record for most wins in a season. She holds the career goals tally.

Second-team honors went to Riverdale’s Shae Berger and Marissa Bonham, and Ada’s Olivia Burkhart and Katie Sizemore.

Burkhart, a senior forward, also put up big numbers in Ada’s offense with 10 goals and six assists.

Sizemore, a senior goalkeeper, had a great season in goal as she racked up 180 saves and secured three shutouts.

Berger, a junior center back, is another key player in the Falcons’ impressive defensive numbers. Bonham, a freshman forward, leads the Falcons with eight goals and 18 points.

Honorable mention went to Riverdale’s Allison Woodruff, Kennedy Phelps, Anjelina Sierra, Chloe Powell, Mariah Bonham and Miranda Miller, plus Ada’s Alex Gibson, Lexi Poling, Karmen Hall and Jenna Rodrigues.

Phelps, a junior midfielder, has two goals and one assist for five points, while Sierra, a senior goalkeeper, has made 39 saves with nine shutouts. Powell and Woodruff, junior defenders, have aided in the Falcons never giving up more than two goals in a single match. Mariah Bonham, a junior midfielder/forward, has scored four goals with three assists, and Miller, a senior who has played all over the field, has one goal and two assists.

Poling, a junior forward, tabbed seven goals and four assists. Hall, a senior defender, contributed four assists. Gibson, a sophomore midfielder, had three assists. Rodrigues is a senior who helped them control the midfield.

In addition, the Falcons’ Shawn Clark was named assistant coach of the year.

Ada’s Doug Dewese was voted coach of the year after helping the Bulldogs to a 6-5-3 record overall and 2-2-1 mark in the league. Van Buren’s Kami Bowman was tabbed player of the year.
