County fair ends on soggy note Posted on September 10, 2018 0 A soggy weekend had a big impact on Hardin County Fair attendance as it wrapped up its six-day run on Sunday. The fair board canceled most of its major weekend events due to the continuous rain which began Friday afternoon. The Dylan Scott concert slated for Saturday night was a casualty of the weather. Canceled on Sunday were the high school show choir program as well as the demolition derby. The estimated attendance for the week was 30,165 compared to 56,415 a year ago. The paid gate was 8,168 versus 10,074 in 2017. On Saturday, the paid gate was 1,101 compared to 3,198 in 2017. The estimated total attendance was 6,166. A year ago it was 17,909. Sunday was just as bad. The paid gate was 513 versus 2,004 in 2017. Total attendance was estimated at 2,873 compared to 11,222 the previous year. “We would like not to remember the fair of 2018!” said Judi Cronley, secretary/treasurer of the fair.
