Creations receive awards Posted on September 10, 2018 0 Donna Price (front), Betty McCullough (left) and Wendy Morin are members of the Dunkirk Garden Club, which decorated the winner in the booth competition this year at the Hardin County Fair’s flower show. The club incorporated Monarch chrysalis which are transforming into butterflies within the screened booth during the fair. Lois Wetherill of Bluffton captured the attention of the judge in the fine arts show twice. Her hand embroidery entry was named the reserve championship of its division and her pillow was named the reserve champ in the sewing judging. Holly Layman Cannode brought home a grand champion title with her cake entry in the 2018 Hardin County Fair arts and craft competition on Tuesday. Sandy Rosebrough of Kenton brought the winning fairy garden to this year’s flower competition at the Hardin County Fair. The cookies of Elaine Hoover of Kenton were popular with the judge at the arts and craft building on Tuesday. Her bar cookies were named the grand champion of that division and the butterscotch cookies she prepared for the competition were named reserve champion. Lori Paul of Kenton had a successful first day of competition at the county fair. Her pretzel bar cookies were named reserve champion and the oatmeal cookies she entered were selected as grand champion cookies. Her efforts were rewarded with a plaque in addition to her rosettes. Bonnie Breilmaier of Kenton zoomed in her attention on a passion flower and her entry a grand championship in the adult division of the fine arts show. Pam Miller of LaRue had a successful year at the arts and craft show. Her canning skills were recognized by the judges with a reserve championship rosette for her pickled relish and a grand champion honor for her peach jam entry. Miller also took home the top awards in the candy contest with her creations earning both grand and reserve championships. John Hatcher of Kenton fought the Japanese Beetles in his rose garden to bring the grand champion rose in this year’s flower show at the Hardin County Fair. Phyllis Poland earned a grand championship title with her crocheted afghan entry in the arts and craft show. The photograph of a bridge brought a grand championship title to Barb Moore of Kenton. Will Flinn of Kenton brought a two-pie basket which earned the grand championship in the adult division of the contest. Kathy Vermillion of Ada used a quilting machine to create a dinosaur quilt and her efforts resulted in a grand championship at the arts and craft competition of the 2018 Hardin County Fair. A wall-hanging quilt earned Vermillion a reserve title. Beth Hoag of Forest crocheted the reserve champion at the arts and craft show at the 2018 Hardin County Fair. Her entry was a colorful newborn baby outfit.
