VANLUE — Heading into the fourth quarter Thursday night, the Riverdale girls basketball team needed to more than double the points they had scored in the first three quarters combined if they wanted a chance to win against Blanchard Valley Conference foe Vanlue.
DEGRAFF — Riverside outscored Ridgemont in each of the final three quarters on the way to a 46-30 Northwest Central Conference girls basketball victory on Thursday. Trailing 7-6 eight minutes into the game, the host Pirates outscored the Gophers 16-9 in the second quarter, 10-6 in the third quarter and 14-8 in the final stanza to pull away for the win.
ADA — Allen East outscored Ada in all four quarters to pull away for a 65-31 Northwest Conference girls basketball victory on Thursday. The Mustangs led 11-6 after eight minutes before outpointing Ada 14-2 in the second quarter and 17-6 in the third quarter to take a commanding 42-14 lead entering the final stanza.
CELINA — Host Celina defeated Kenton 54-21 in a Western Buckeye League wrestling matchup on Thursday night. The Wildcats gave up points in six weight classes to voids due to not having wrestlers at those weights.
After four straight wins to start the season, the Kenton boys basketball team shifts its focus to the Western Buckeye League as the Wildcats travel to Celina on Friday night. The Wildcats improved to 4-0 with a 46-29 win over Ben Logan on Tuesday.
Kenton High School graduate and Ashland University senior Travis Downing has been named to the 2018 Google Cloud NCAA Division II Academic All-America team for his efforts in the classroom and on the football field this fall. Downing, the Eagles long snapper for the past four seasons, was selected to the second team.
SPRINGFIELD — Kenton Ridge jumped on top of Ben Logan early and never looked back on the way to a 69-39 victory over the Raiders on Wednesday night. The host Cougars led 20-4 after eight minutes and extended the lead to 44-9 by halftime.
TROTWOOD — The Ben Logan girls swimming team won a meet at Trotwood Madison on Wednesday night, scoring 414 points. It was the first in-season meet the Raiders have ever won.
MOUNT BLANCHARD - Riverdale’s wrestlers split a pair of dual matches with McComb and Van Buren in a BVC tri-match on Wednesday. Riverdale edged McComb 30-23.
The Kenton basketball team ran away with easy wins over Indian Lake and Waynesfield-Goshen in its first two games this season. In the past two games, including a 46-29 victory over Ben Logan on Tuesday night, the Wildcats have shown they can grind out victories in defensive battles.
