Gophers outplay LTC

MOUNT VICTORY — Ridgemont got past Lima Temple Christian in four games 25-16, 25-12, 21-25, 25-18 in a Northwest Central Conference volleyball matchup on Thursday. Ridgemont improves to 8-5 on the season and 3-3 in the NWCC. LTC is now 2-17 and 1-5.

‘Cats look to regain footing against Shawnee

After humbling losses the past two weeks, the Kenton football team will try to regain its swagger when it travels to Shawnee on Friday night. It won’t be easy. After giving up 70 and 60 points and more than 300 yards on the ground against St. Marys and Van Wert the past two weeks, the Wildcats (3-3 overall and 3-2 in the Western Buckeye League) will have to stop another running threat in Indians’ quarterback Johnny Caprella if they are going to get back in the win column.

Polar Bears look to eliminate mistakes against Elgin

Mistake-free football is the goal Hardin Northern coach Mike Dennis has for his team in fighting to get a win against Elgin at home Friday night. While the Polar Bears and the Comets come into the game with identical records (2-4 overall, 1-2 in the Northwest Central Conference), they are coming off very different weeks.

McGUFFEY — After making it to districts and coming up short each of the past two years, Upper Scioto Valley senior Brady Hipsher came into this golf season with a goal of qualifying for the state tournament. While he gets a shot to make that a reality on Friday when he compete in the Division III district tournament at Stone Ridge in Bowling Green, the Ram senior will have the company of his teammates on the course as the USV team also will be taking its shot at the state tournament.

Longbrake’s goal is DII state golf tourney

Rocco Longbrake is hoping the third time will be the charm for him when he plays in the Division II district golf tournament at Red Hawk Run in Findlay on Thursday. The Kenton High School senior, who made it to districts as a member of Kenton’s district qualifying teams in 2015 and 2017, is hoping this will be the time where he is able to finish among the top golfers in the field and earn a trip to next week’s Division II state tournament in Columbus.
