Ada boys top W-G to earn second victory

ADA — Ada outscored Waynesfield-Goshen in three of four quarters on the way to a 61-44 win in the consolation game of the Border Battle Classic on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs, who improve to 2-8 on the season, led 13-6 eight minutes into the game and 26-21 at halftime before outscoring the Tigers 20-14 in the third quarter and 15-9 in the fourth stanza.

ADA — The Ada girls basketball team struggled to put the ball in the basket as the Bulldogs fell to Waynesfield-Goshen 44-25 in the consolation game of the Border Battle Classic on Saturday afternoon. Ada, which made just four free throws in the game, trailed 10-2 eight minutes in and 15-7 at halftime before being outscored 14-4 in the third quarter.

VANLUE —The Hardin Northern boys basketball team celebrated a victory for the first time in more than two years on Friday night. The Polar Bears rallied from an early deficit by outscoring Vanlue 38-25 over the middle two quarters before holding on over the final eight minutes for a 61-57 win in a non-league tilt.

BELLEFONTAINE — After getting outscored by Riverside 14-1 in the second quarter of Thursday night’s girls basketball contest, Benjamin Logan rebounded in the third, fighting back to within three points after a 16-4 stretch. But five quick points by the Pirates in the first 30 seconds of the fourth led to a 7-0 run, and a tiring Lady Raider squad was unable to keep pace, falling 52-43 in the non-league match-up.

Lady Rams top Ada for first victory

ADA — It came two days late, but the Upper Scioto Valley girls basketball team gave head coach Travis Donnelly his Christmas gift on Thursday night. USV overcame an early nine-point deficit to pull away for a 44-35 victory over host Ada in the semifinals of the 2nd Border Battle Tournament, giving Donnelly and the Lady Rams their first win of the season.

Polar Bear men fall to Linfield in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The Ohio Northern men's basketball team went ice cold in the second half and fell to Linfield (Ore.) 75-57 on the first day of the 9th annual D3hoops.com Classic on Thursday evening at the South Point Arena. The Polar Bears (3-8 overall) were led by senior All-American Ryan Bruns with 22 points and 9 rebounds, while the Wildcats (8-2 overall) were led by Dempsey Roggenbuck with 20 points.

ONU women rally for win

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Ohio Northern used a late 13-0 run to post a 65-57 women's basketball victory over Carthage (Wis.) on the first day of the D3hoops.com Classic on Thursday afternoon at the South Point Arena. The Polar Bears (7-4 overall) were led by Abby Weeks with 15 points, Emily Brock with 14 points and Alyssa Manley with 10 points.

Early deficit too much for HN to overcome

VANLUE — Hardin Northern could not overcome an early deficit as the Polar Bears fell to Vanlue 37-32 in a non-league girls basketball game on Thursday night. The hosts jumped ahead 12-6 after eight minutes before Hardin Northern got within 18-14 at halftime and 25-21 after three quarters.
