Wildcats explode for 67-35 victory over Elida

While there have been some disappointments for the Kenton football team this season, the Wildcats made sure there were none for their seniors on Friday night. The Wildcats took control of their game against Elida – their final contest of the season at Robinson Field – in the second quarter and pulled away in the third quarter on the way to a 67-35 win over the visiting Bulldogs.

Bluffton takes care of Ada

BLUFFTON — Ada was outscored 28-0 by Bluffton in the first half, putting the Bulldogs behind the 8 ball early and setting them up for a 43-14 defeat Friday night. Ada drops to 2-7 overall, 1-5 in the Northwest Conference. The Pirates improve to 3-6, 2-4.

Elgin pulls away from Rams

McGUFFEY — The Upper Scioto Valley Rams watched an 8-6 first quarter lead dissolve into a 30-14 halftime deficit against Elgin on Friday night. The Rams were shutout 16-0 in the second half, falling to the Comets 46-14.

Polar Bears get past W-G

WAYNESFIELD — The Hardin Northern Polar Bears earned an 18-6 road victory over the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers on Friday night. The Northwest Central Conference win improves the Polar Bears to 4-5 overall, 3-3 in the conference. The Tigers fall to 4-5, 2-4.

Lady ‘Cats claim school’s first girls soccer sectional title

ST. MARYS — Sidney Plott scored the lone goal of the game two minutes into overtime off a Jazmin Mendez pass to lift Kenton to a 1-0 win over St. Marys and give the Wildcats their first-ever girls soccer sectional championship. Kenton, which won for the second time in overtime in two tournament games this postseason, improves to 10-7-1 on the season.

McCOMB — There’s no question the Carey volleyball team has heavily relied on junior outside hitter McKenzie Row, the team’s most experienced returning player from last year, throughout the 2018 season. Row finished the regular season in the top five in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference in kills and among the conference leaders in aces and serve receiving.

Bulldogs sweep Gophers to advance to district semifinals

ARLINGTON — Ada cruised by Ridgemont in three sets 25-11, 25-12, 25-16 to lay claim to a Division III sectional championship Thursday night at Arlington High School. Megan Light had 11 kills and Rilan Conley added 7 kills and 3 aces to lead the Bulldogs, who advance to district semifinal play against Arlington at 6 p.m. Monday at Findlay High School.
