DEFIANCE — The Kenton seventh grade girls basketball team defeated Defiance 30-26 on Saturday. Emily Pees netted 13 points and Brynn Butler added 12 to lead the Wildcats.
MARIETTA — Despite a strong effort from senior Ryan Bruns, the Ohio Northern basketball team could not keep pace with Marietta Saturday as the Polar Bears fell to the host Pioneers 91-64, Bruns scored 19 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and added three blocked shots to lead the the Polar Bears, who drop to 4-17 on the season and 0-14 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
MARIETTA — The Ohio Northern women's basketball team battled back from a 34-15 deficit with 6:50 to go in the second quarter, but were ultimately edged by Marietta 63-59 Saturday afternoon at Ban Johnson Fieldhouse. The Polar Bears (11-10 overall, 5-9 Ohio Athletic Conference) received 21 points (6-9 FG), five rebounds, three assists, and three steals from senior Jenna Dirksen (Beavercreek/Carroll).
The Kenton sixth grade basketball team lost to Upper Scioto Valley and Indian Lake on Sunday in the USV league. Bill Wilkinson had 8 points and Carson Dealing 7 points to lead Kenton. Trenton Delong finished with 3 points, while Bob Wilkinson and Gavin Boyle finished with two points each.
DOLA — Coming off a pair of game-tying free throws by Lima Temple Christian’s Brady Bowman with just 11 second left in the game, the Polar Bears looked to get down the floor quickly. A pass from Hardin Northern’s Nevin Robson found his teammate Cody Wilmoth open under the hoop, finishing with a go-ahead basket with just 4.4 second to go.
Trailing Shawnee by six points at halftime, the Kenton boys basketball team had hopes of pulling of an upset when it came out to start the second half on Friday night. Instead it was the Indians that made their presence known at both ends of the floor, opening the third quarter with a 12-2 run in pulling away for a 75-45 Western Buckeye League victory.
MOUNT BLANCHARD — The Riverdale boys basketball team’s winning streak has now eclipsed their win totals each of the last two seasons. Thanks to a second quarter in which the Falcons outscored the Cory-Rawson Hornets by 12 and a third quarter in which they outscored them by 10, the Falcons overcame sluggish first and fourth quarters with a 59-51 victory over the Hornets on Friday at Riverdale High School.
SPRINGFIELD — The Benjamin Logan Raiders outscored Northwestern 31-21 in the second half of Friday night’s Central Buckeye Conference contest, overcoming a halftime deficit to earn the 56-55 victory.
ADA — Down 39-34 entering the fourth quarter, the Ada Bulldogs outscored Spencerville 16-9 to take the 50-48 Northwest Conference victory on Friday.
McGUFFEY — Upper Scioto Valley outscored Waynesfield-Goshen in all four quarters in cruising to am 87-47 Northwest central Conference victory on Friday night.
