BELLEFONTAINE — Ben Logan held a 12-point lead after eight minutes before surging to an insurmountable advantage with a 36-10 run in the second quarter on the way to an 88-26 non-conference girls basketball victory over Northeastern on Thursday night.

LARUE — The Hardin Northern girls basketball team is probably glad it doesn’t have to make the trip to Elgin again for a couple of years. The host Comets took a 20-3 lead after eight minutes and built on their advantage from there on the way to a 71-10 victory over the Polar Bears in the Northwest Central Conference opener for both teams on Thursday night.

DeGRAFF — Upper Scioto Valley faced an uphill battle after trailing 21-0 to Riverside after the first quarter of Thursday’s Northwest Central Conference girls basketball game. The Rams were unable to recover from the early deficit, falling to the Pirates 65-32 and dropping to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the NWCC.

The Kenton High School cheerleaders presented a $1,500 check raised from their Cheer for a Cure fundraiser to Not By Choice earlier this week.

After a month of practices and scrimmages area boys basketball squads will take to the court when the games matter as the three-and-and a half month season officially tips off Friday night. The Kenton boys basketball team looks to begin its quest of building on last season’s 14-9 mark when it travels to Indian Lake.

BELLEFONTAINE — The Ben Logan bowling teams swept Springfield Shawnee on Wednesday night. The Raider boys topped Shawnee 2,633-2,555 for their first win of the season.

DOLA — A 10-point fourth quarter by Hardin Northern’s Maddie Grappy helped bring her team to within two points of Riverdale’s lead with just 20 seconds left during Tuesday’s non-league girls basketball contest. But Riverdale converted three of four foul shots down the stretch to hold on for a 42-37 victory.

BELLEFONTAINE — The Ben Logan bowling teams fell to Springfield Northwestern in a season-opening match on Tuesday night. The Lady Raiders were defeated 2,421-2,322

RIDGEWAY — The Ridgemont middle school basketball teams dropped their season openers to Waynesfield-Goshen on Tuesday night. The Gopher eighth grade team fell 46-23.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A pair of Kenton athletes and a Ben Logan athlete were recognized on the All-Ohio Division IV football teams released by the Ohio Prep Sportswriter’s Association on Monday.
