North Union gets best of Lady Gophers, 57-52

RIDGEWAY — North Union outscored Ridgemont by five points in the third quarter and that proved to be the difference as the visiting Tigers held off the Gophers 57-52 in non-league girls basketball action on Saturday. The Tigers led 20-9 after one quarter before the Gophers outscored them 16-6 in the second eight minutes to pull within a point at halftime.

Tecumseh pulls away from Ben Logan in 4th quarter

BELLEFONTAINE — Visiting Tecumseh outscored Ben Logan 29-15 over the final eight minutes of the game to grab a 63-52 win over the Raiders in boys basketball action on Saturday night. Ben Logan trailed 13-4 early on, but outscored the Arrows 16-12 in the second quarter and 17-9 in the third quarter to grab a 37-34 lead going into the final eight minutes. Nolan Robson had a game-high 16 points to lead the Raiders, while Garrett Allen added 9.

Youth prevails as Gophers top Ada in opener

MOUNT VICTORY — With just eight players – all freshmen and sophomores – dressed for Friday night’s boys basketball game against Ada, on paper, the Ridgemont Golden Gophers looked to be facing an uphill battle. But the Gophers (1-0) came firing out of the gate, and led by freshmen Mason Stuck and Landon Newland, they grabbed a 59-50 win over the Bulldogs to open the season.

Riverdale holds off Carey’s late rally

CAREY — The Carey boys basketball team opened its regular season with a non-conference game against area rival Riverdale and the game didn’t disappoint. Both team’s traded big swings of momentum with Riverdale having an opportunity to tie the game in the final 10 seconds. However the Falcons fell just short as Carey won 55-52.

Hopewell-Loudon rips Hardin Northern 74-27

BASCOM — Despite trailing just three points to Hopewell-Loudon in the first quarter, Hardin Northern was outscored 54-13 in the middle two quarters and fell 74-27 in Friday’s season-opening boys basketball contest. The Polar Bears were led by Lance Good who had three buckets and was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line for a total of nine points.

Fast start propels Raiders in opener

DeGRAFF — Matching 20-point periods in the first 16 minutes for the Ben Logan Raiders helped them build a 40-15 first half lead and they rolled to a 67-42 boys basketball win on Friday night. The opening game win gets the Raiders off to a 1-0 start, while the Pirates sit at 0-1.

RIDGEWAY — Early on Thursday night, the Ridgemont girls appeared to be in control of their season-opening basketball contest against Waynesfield-Goshen. The visiting Tigers however cut an early 16-point Gopher lead to three points by the early stages of the fourth quarter before the Gophers regained their composure to pull away for a 67-52 victory in the Northwest Central Conference matchup.
