Wildcats come up short against Wapak

WAPAKONETA — Trailing by 14 points early in the third quarter, the Kenton Wildcats found themselves facing an uphill climb at Wapakoneta on Friday night. And while the Wildcats were able to cut that 32-18 deficit to two points with three minutes left in the game, they were never able to quite get to back to the top of the mountain as the host Redskins held on for a 49-44 Western Buckeye League boys basketball win.

MOUNT VICTORY — After building a 16-point lead against Hardin Northern midway through the fourth quarter, the Ridgemont Golden Gophers appeared to be on their way to an easy win over their county and conference rival. In the final four minutes, however, the Polar Bears put the pressure on, forcing turnovers and attacking the basket to go on a 12-0 run, closing the gap to four.

Raiders get past Urbana, move to 5-0 in CBC play

URBANA — Leading Urbana 30-27 after three quarters, Ben Logan held off the Hillclimbers in a tight fourth quarter to earn a 41-36 victory Friday night. Ben Logan improves to 9-3 overall and remains perfect in the Central Buckeye Conference’s Mad River Division at 5-0. Urbana drops to 6-4, 3-2.

Falcons get past Arcadia

ARCADIA — The Riverdale Falcons held Arcadia to just four points in the first quarter en route to a 47-38 boys basketball victory on Friday night. The win lifts the Falcons to 7-5 overall, 4-1 in the Blanchard Valley Conference. The Redskins fall to 1-11, 0-5.

Rams topple Lehman, remain perfect in NWCC

SIDNEY — Holding a 21-14 lead over Lehman Catholic at the half, the Upper Scioto Valley Rams shot out of the gate in the third quarter, outscoring the Cavaliers 16-8 and taking the 50-36 boys basketball win. The win improves USV’s overall record to 8-3, and they remain perfect in the Northwest Central Conference at 3-0.

Lady Gophers hold off Hardin Northern

DOLA — Leading by as many as 11 points in the third quarter, Ridgemont looked like it was going to pull away for an easy victory over Hardin Northern in a Northwest Central Conference girls basketball contest on Thursday. The Lady Polar Bears didn’t make it easy for the Gophers however, as they rallied to take the lead several times in the second half before Ridgemont broke a 38-38 tie with four free throws in the final 20 seconds to hold on for a 42-38 victory.
