Kenton’s Oates topped at state

COLUMBUS — Dale Oates became the first Kenton boys tennis player to compete at the state tournament on Friday morning. The match didn’t go as hoped though, as Oates fell to Bay Village Bay’s Adam Krueger 6-4, 6-2 in the first round.

BL’s Bowers vaults to state

DAYTON — Davis Bowers is going to Columbus. The Ben Logan senior cleared 14-0 to finish fourth in the pole vault during the first day of competition at the Division II regional track meet in Dayton on Thursday.

The first farm Reds defeated the Rockies 3-2 in Kenton Little League action on Wednesday. Brenden Ruth had two hits and Anthony Hunt added a double to lead the Reds at the plate.

Qualifying for state

TIFFIN — The Riverdale 4 by 800 relay team will be making a trip to Columbus for the second straight spring. The Falcons’ 3,200-meter quartet of Kyle Evans, Josh Hunter, Joe Lauck and Chad Pever ran in the top two the entire race during the Division III Tiffin regional meet on Wednesday as they circled the track eight times in a school record 8:08.06 to finish second.

Holbrook wins regional title

TIFFIN — Brittany Holbrook didn’t waste any time punching her ticket to next week’s state track meet. The Upper Scioto Valley senior, who is competing in four events at this week’s Division III regional track meet in Tiffin, started off the competition on Wednesday by winning the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 4 inches.
