Area boys begin sectional play tonight

Area boys basketball teams begin their quest for a state championship when they open sectional tournament play tonight. Kenton, which completed the regular season with a 13-9 record, has a rematch with Shawnee in its Division II sectional opener at Lima Senior at 6:15 p.m. today.

Three Falcons qualify for district tourney

FOSTORIA — The Riverdale wrestling team qualified three wrestlers to this week’s Division III district meet at Toledo Waite High School. During sectional competition at Fostoria High School on Saturday, the Falcons got second place finishes from Wayne Frey at 145 pounds and Aiden Loveridge at 182 pounds.

ONU women to host first round games

ADA — No. 5-ranked Ohio Northern will host the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament and take on Lakeland (Wis.) on Friday in the nightcap of a doubleheader at the ONU Sports Center. The time of the game has not been announced.

Fourth quarter run lifts Lady Rams

HARROD — Holding just a six-point lead over Crestview after three quarters, Upper Scioto Valley opened up the fourth with an 11-0 run, propelling them to a 57-41 Division IV sectional final girls basketball win on Saturday at Allen East. The win improved the No. 2 Rams to 19-3 and advanced them into a district semifinal contest against No. 3 Marion Local at 6:15 p.m. Thursday at Wapakoneta High School.
