LaRue dairy farmer represents industry during Capitol Hill visit

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Karl Wedemeyer, a dairy farmer from LaRue, recently visited Washington, D.C., to meet with congressional leaders and discuss issues impacting the dairy industry. Wedemeyer attended the 2017 National Milk Producers Federation’s Dairy Policy and Legislative Forum as a representative of Dairy Farmers of America’s (DFA) Young Cooperator (YC) program.

County struggling with surge in female inmates

Under its current agreement with the Multi-County Correctional Center in Marion, Hardin County usually has a several of its allotted jail spaces unfilled as inmates are processed in an out of the facility. However an increasing number of women inmates from both counties have left that section of the jail filled a majority of the time, leaving local law enforcement officials increasingly finding themselves scrambling to find somewhere else to house female inmates - at a higher cost to Hardin County.

R’mont OKs drug tests

MOUNT VICTORY — Beginning this fall, students in the Ridgemont School District will be subject to a drug testing policy if they want to take part on any athletic teams or in extracurricular activities. During its June meeting on Thursday, the school board approved mandatory alcohol and drug testing for all students in grades 7-12 involved in extracurricular activities, said Superintendent Emmy Beeson.
