Excessive early rain led to inconsistent corn crop yields

With the help of fifteen volunteer rainfall reporters, the Hardin County Extension office has collected unofficial township rainfall data for the past 23 consecutive years. The 2015 growing season started with a relatively warm and dry planting period. Although most corn was planted early to mid May, excessive rainfall starting later in the month greatly reduced yields.

Dry fall allows farmers to have early harvest

During the month of September, Extension volunteer rainfall reporters received an average of 1.57 inches of rain. The most rain for this month, 2.80 inches, fell in Hale Township, as measured by Tim Ramsey. The least rain reported during the month, 0.79 inches, was reported in Buck Township by Heritage Cooperative (Kenton).

The Hardin County Fair Board stepped up and provided a generous poultry program at this year’s fair, including extensive poster display and contest, full showmanship show with fair board-purchased fake birds and full junior fair livestock sale participation to all with market poultry projects.
