Farmers will have the opportunity to learn about cover crops in a one day workshop at the Plaza Inn Restaurant in Mount Victory on Friday, Feb. 10. This program will be held in the banquet room of the Plaza Inn, 491 S Main Street.

COLUMBUS — The leadership and advocacy development program AgriPOWER is now accepting applications for participation. The Ohio Farm Bureau Federation’s AgriPOWER Class IX will include 20 individuals who are committed to improving their understanding of important issues and are willing to develop skills to become effective advocates for the farm and food community.

COLUMBUS – Hunters checked 15,843 white-tailed deer during Ohio’s muzzleloader season, Jan. 7-10, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). During last year’s muzzleloader season, 12,503 white-tailed deer were checked.

A Tractor Safety and Machinery Operation certification course for youth has been scheduled for Wednesday evenings from Feb. 1 through March 8 through OSU Extension. March 15 is a possible make-up day in the event of inclement weather.

The Hardin County Agricultural Society met Wednesday, Dec. 28 at the Plaza Inn Restaurant in Mt. Victory for its holiday meeting. Eighteen directors were present and 35 guests were present.

The OSU Extension Beef Team has announced the details for the 2017 Ohio Beef Cattle School. The Hardin County Extension office will serve as a host site for this winter’s series.

The 2017 Conservation Tillage Club breakfast program series will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at the Plaza Inn Restaurant in Mount Victory. Each session will start at 7:30 a.m. with complimentary buffet breakfast followed by the program at 8 a.m. Other sessions will be held on Jan. 24, Feb. 7 and 21.

MOUNT VICTORY — Bids are now being accepted for Mount Victory’s farm land located north of the village. The 79-acre area is bid out by the village to farmers interested in using the land. The current lease is for $147 per acre for two years and expires at the end of this month.

The 2016 inductees into the Hardin County Ag Hall of Fame included an educator, an administrator of a federal agriculture program, an inventor/businessman and a professor/college administrator.

With the help of fifteen volunteer rainfall reporters, the Hardin County Extension office has collected unofficial township rainfall data for the past 24 consecutive years.
