COLUMBUS — Ohio Farm Bureau members recently made their case for property tax relief during testimony before the Ohio Senate Ways and Means Committee. In addition, Farm Bureau leaders met with Ohio House members as the representatives continue to explore pathways forward for CAUV reform.

The Blanchard Pleasant Buckeyes 4-H Club will hold its first meeting Monday, March 6 at the Hardin Northern School Ag Building from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. Each member will receive an enrollment sheet, a schedule of meetings and club activities for the year, and each family a Family Guide to 4-H.

The Hardin County Pork Producers will hold their annual Pork Banquet on Saturday, March 11 at St. John’s Evangelical Church, starting at 6:30 p.m. The fun-filled evening will include selection of the queen and scholarship recipients as well as amazing food and door prizes.

Agricultural fertilizer applicator certification is now required for farmers who apply fertilizer to more than 50 acres of agricultural production grown primarily for sale. This requirement was signed into law in June 2014, and also requires certification for commercial agricultural fertilizer applicators.

The Kenton Tractor Supply Company store will collect donations during National FFA Week to support grants for FFA chapters in Ohio. During National FFA Week, Feb. 17- 26, Tractor Supply shoppers can donate $1 or more at checkout.

After a year of hard work, the Riverdale FFA sent numerous books, degrees, and awards to the regional evaluation. Secretary Cara Pauley, Treasurer Breanah Shane and Reporter, Carrol Pauley all received gold ratings on their officer books.

FINDLAY — The process to decommission the Killdeer Reservoir located near Marseilles is scheduled to resume this week, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). The embankment (dam) that surrounds Killdeer Reservoir has deteriorated significantly since its construction in 1971. The Hardin County Sheep Improvement Association will hold its annual Lamb Banquet on Saturday, March 4 at St. John’s Evangelical Church in Kenton at 6:30 p.m. Tickets can be obtained from the Extension office at 1021 W. Lima Street, Suite 103, Kenton. Adult tickets are $15, children $7, and 2016 Hardin County Junior Fair sheep exhibitors are free with a reservation given at 419-674-2297 by Feb. 24.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — When the sale ring is empty after the final day of the county fair in late summer and animals return home with their owners or are sent to market, not everyone is ready to sit back and wait for the next year’s fair. National livestock shows take place year-round and are meeting places for the best of the best showmen, and one local showman proved that he belongs in the conversation of being one of the best.

The annual Hardin County Dairy Banquet will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25 at noon at the Plaza Inn Restaurant, Mt. Victory. Tickets this year are $13 for adults and $7 for children 12 and under. Junior Fair dairy exhibitors from the 2016 Hardin County Fair are eligible for a complimentary ticket by contacting the Extension office.
