‘Dancing History’ to demonstrate period dance at Ohio Northern

ADA – The Ohio Northern University Department of Theatre Arts will present a lecture demonstration, “Dancing History,” at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28 in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts. Guest artist and dance historian Thomas Baird has been on campus working with ONU students to develop historical dance techniques. Audiences can expect to witness changes of period dance styles, dress and music.

‘James and the Giant Peach’ slated

FINDLAY – Roald Dahl’s fantastical tale of a boy, his insect friends and their amazing journey across the ocean on a giant piece of fruit, sets sail on Oct. 4 and 5 in Findlay. Performances of the family-friendly musical “James and the Giant Peach” will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 4 and 2 p.m. Oct. 5 the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts, located at 200 W. Main Cross St., Findlay.

The Guess Who to play at Marion Palace

Ready to perform

MARION — The Guess Who, rock music’s top hit-makers of 1960s and ‘70s, are set to perform a live concert at the Marion Palace Theatre on Friday, Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. Initially gaining recognition in Canada in the 1960s, The Guess Who found international super-stardom through the mid-1970s. Their impressive collection of hit singles includes "These Eyes," "Clap For the Wolfman," "Hand Me Down World," "No Time," "Star Baby," "Share the Land," "No Sugar Tonight," "Laughing," "Undun," and their No. 1 rock anthem "American Woman."

Blues and BBQ Festival set Saturday in Marion

MARION — The 4th annual Marion County Blues and BBQ Festival is set for Saturday, Aug. 24 from noon to 10 p.m. in downtown Marion at Founders Park and South Main Street. This event is being held by Marion’s blues radio station TruBlues975 and their licensing charity Marion Makes Music, Inc. The city will be blocking off traffic access to the portion of Main Street between Center and Church Streets for the day.

Kenton native to perform with Marilyn McCoo, Billy Davis Jr.

In concert

Kenton native Cydney Davis will be performing with Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. at a concert Saturday night at Lakeside. Cydney grew up in Kenton and graduated from Kenton High School. She started singing at a young age and sang her first solo at Payne Chapel AME Church at age 12. She acknowledges her church mentors Sara and Roger Brown and Alma Whetzel who helped developed her confidence in singing and also her high school music teacher, James "JD" Smith for inspiring her to pursue her talents.
