ADA — Several select Ohio Northern University students will have the opportunity to display their talent on a larger stage when they perform with the Lima Symphony Orchestra during the “American Elegance” program at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 10 in Lima’s Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center.

BLUFFTON – Bluffton University will present “Helen” by Ellen McLaughlin, a contemporary adaption of the ancient Greek play by Euripides this fall. Dr. Melissa Friesen, professor of communication and theatre, will direct the play, which is being staged at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 1-3 and 2:30 p.m., Nov. 4 in Ramseyer Auditorium in College Hall.

ADA – The Ohio Northern University Marching Band will celebrate the 2018 season during its annual “Band-O-Rama” concert at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28 in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts. The band will perform selections from its program, “9-0,” which features music associated with the 1990s.

ADA — The Ohio Northern University choirs will present their traditional Homecoming weekend concert at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26 in Presser Hall. The “Choral Collage” will feature the women’s chorus, University Singers and Chamber Singers performing pieces by Mendelssohn, Brahms, Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo and American composer Jake Runestad, and will conclude with the traditional singing of the ONU Hymn.

ADA — Noteworthy Community Choir is sponsoring a choir workshop for singers ages 7-14 on Saturday, Nov. 10 in Ada, or Saturday, Nov. 3 in Lima. Each workshop runs from 1 to 5:30 p.m. Come sing, move, drum, create, and share the music at a 5 p.m. concert, said director Vicki Mills.

After a 1 1⁄2-hour rain delay, the Ada High School Marching Band and Color Guard took the field earning first place in Class C on Saturday, Oct. 6 at the OMEA “Music in Motion” competition held at Maumee High School. The group earned Overall Best Visual Effect and Best Auxillary regardless of school size.

ADA – The Department of Theatre Arts of Ohio Northern University will present ‘Mystic India: The World Tour’ with the ONU Dance Company at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 27 in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts. ‘Mystic India: The World Tour, A Bollywood Dance Spectacular’ includes a special guest performance by the ONU Dance Company and is an internationally acclaimed Bollywood dance spectacular that combines authentic Indian and modern techniques bringing the streets of Mumbai and New York into perfect harmony.

ADA – The Ohio Northern University Wind Orchestra will present “An American Tribute” at 4 p.m. on Oct. 21 in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts. Director Antoine T. Clark will conduct the program, which will feature works by George Gershwin, Samuel Barber, Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein.

MARION — A three-day run of the musical comedy “Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?” takes place this weekend at the Marion Palace Theatre May Pavilion. Directed by Ann Schertzer, it will be performed Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

BLUFFTON — Bluffton University will host a fall choral concert featuring the University Chorale and Camerata Singers at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21, in Yoder Recital Hall. The choirs under the leadership of newly appointed director of choral activities, Dr. Bo Young Kang.
