The filing deadline for independent candidates for the Nov. 5 general election is Monday, May 6. The petitions must be filed at the Hardin County Board of Elections by 4 p.m.

The filing deadline for partisan candidates and local questions and issues for the May 7 Primary election, including local option petitions, is Feb. 6. The petitions must be filed at the Hardin County Board of Elections by 4 p.m.

Two Republican candidates have filed for office in the spring primary. Lynn Webb Jones has filed petitions to run for the office of Kenton mayor.

Senator Rob McColley, R-Napoleon, is joined by his wife Denise and daughter Anna as he takes the oath of office for Ohio’s 133rd General Assembly from Ohio Supreme Court Justice Judith L. French. He is serving his first full four-year term as senator for Ohio’s 1st Senate District, which includes Hardin County.

A local public swearing-in ceremony for State Representative-elect Jon Cross is set for Friday, Jan. 4, 2019 at the Hardin County Courthouse starting at 1 p.m. Cross, his wife Christina Cross and family are inviting community members from the 83rd Ohio House district, which includes Hancock, Hardin and (part of) Logan Counties to join them for a hometown ceremonial swearing-In celebration.

Candidates for judge of Hardin County Municipal Court and municipal offices in Kenton and Ada will have until the end of business hours on Feb. 6, 2018 to file petitions to appear on the May 7 ballot, said Sandra Bookmyer, director of the Hardin County Board of Elections.

Two Republicans were elected in Hardin County contested races on Tuesday. Tim Striker will be the newest Hardin County Commissioner in January and Jon Cross was elected to represent the 83rd House District in the Statehouse.

The voters in Hardin County decided a wide variety of issues at the polls in Tuesday's election. School issues, service levies and the future of a municipal board were all determined in the election with favorable results to most of the entities who presented them for consideration.
