In the twenty-eighth chapter of the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus concludes his Great Commission with the following words: “And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’’ Each of three women from a support group speakers’ bureau gave a five-minute presentation at one of the churches I served.

Speaker lifts up people through use of the arts

The Lima Chapter of Aglow International will be holding its monthly morning meeting on Thursday, Aug. 11 from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Fellowship Hall of Church of the Good Shepherd, 224 Elm St., Columbus Grove. The guest speaker will be Cathy Shock who travels across the USA with easel and a blank canvas sharing at conferences.

Epworth UMC plans outdoor service, meal

The Epworth United Methodist Church in Kenton will be holding an outdoor worship service and covered dish dinner this Sunday beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Boy Scout Lake under the shelterhouse. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish to share and their own table service.

Retiring pastor to be honored

FOREST — An appreciation/retirement lunch in honor of Pastor Denny Livingston is planned for Aug. 7 at 12:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the Forest United Methodist Church. Area residents are invited to come and help celebrate Denny’s 25 years of ministry. Nine of those years was spent at Forest and the other years in local churches.

VBS planned in Byhalia

BYHALIA — Byhalia Friends Church will present Cave Quest Vacation Bible School on Aug. 1-4. A light supper will be served at 6 p.m. each day, with fun and games and learning to follow Jesus from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The VBS is open to children in preschool through the sixth grade.

Czech Republic minister discovers Kenton is a welcoming community

As soon as Rev. Tomas Pistora came to Kenton’s Trinity United Presbyterian Church in 2003, he knew he’d joined a community that embraces everyone. Pistora was asked by Trinity to be its pastor while he was working for a presbytery in Toledo. Because he is originally from the Czech Republic and not Ohio, it signaled to him that the church was a welcoming one.
