Throughout most of his adult life, Don Castle was considered a role model and a pillar of Hardin County’s society. But, according to the prosecuting attorney and the victim, Castle used his position in the community, his history as a high school coach and his job as a municipal court bailiff as a shield to cover his sexual obsession.

On Sept. 25, 1913, Hardin County residents placed a time capsule near the cornerstone of its new courthouse with the instructions it was to be opened 100 years later. That didn’t happen, but a new time capsule will be entered within the building later this month which will connect future generations with the courthouse of today.

The Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance wants to assist professional women in the community through a new program unveiled Monday. Women L.E.A.D. was founded by co-chairmen Christina Cross, a local business attorney and educator and Jesse Purcell, Community Manager for the American Cancer Society.

The village of Dunkirk lost a building to fire Saturday morning, which had been a part of its history for several decades. Old Aker Manufacturing was located at the corner of Main and Patterson streets and was owned by Pat Reams.

FOREST — Through the support of the area communities, Clifford McBride has been able to keep his business going for 67 years. McBride and his wife, Marcille, are the owners of McBride Furniture Village in Forest.

During the daytime hours, Amanda Crates-Bayliff can be found consoling grieving families at the Schindewolf-Stout-Crates Funeral Home in Kenton. But after work, the black dress is replaced with gym clothes and Crates-Bayliff is at home lifting weights and doing exercises as a trainer at the new Iron Fit Gym in Kenton.

For the parents of most 16-month-old boys, the bedtime for their toddler is a time to unwind and relax from the hectic demands of the day. But Tom Francis and Christina Howe of Kenton are on pins and needles when their son, Riley, finally drifts off.

John Murray of Kenton pins the three stars on the uniform of his son, Lt. General John “Mike” Murray, at services Thursday in the Patriot Room of the Pentagon. Murray was promoted by General Mark Milley, Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army.

If anyone knows the cost of heroin addiction, it is Jawna Ferrell. The Kenton woman has lost a brother and a son in the war on drugs and is dedicating her life to helping others who are facing the heroin epidemic.
