Live life to the fullest: National Nutrition Month

March is designated as National Nutrition Month. The guideline of using the Food Pyramid that we once used in order to eat a balanced meal has been changed. First Lady Michelle Obama and United States Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack introduced the new food icon known as MyPlate on June 2, 2011.

Wildheart Rehabilitators: Red-winged Blackbird

One of the most abundant birds across North America, and one of the most boldly colored, the Red-winged Blackbird is a familiar sight atop cattails, along soggy roadsides, and on telephone wires. Glossy-black males have scarlet-and-yellow shoulder patches they can puff up or hide depending on how confident they feel. Females are a subdued, streaky brown, almost like a large, dark sparrow.
