The parishioners of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church raised $400 during the annual Souper Bowl of Caring fundraiser for Kenton’s S.O.U.P. kitchen on the weekend of Feb. 4.

I am writing this on February 14 which is Valentine’s Day, the day dedicated to love. At the same time, I am seeing my friends sharing tongue in cheek posts about St. Valentine on Facebook reminding us that this patron of all lovers was beaten with clubs, beheaded and buried under the cover of darkness.

The Latter Rain Quartet will be appearing at Kenton Full Gospel Church at 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19. There is no cost for admission, and all are welcome.

LIMA — Trinity United Methodist Church, 2016-17 Ronald W. Richards Music Series presents young local artists in concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12. They will be performing various pieces that they will be presenting at the solo and ensemble contest. Admission is free. A free will offering will be collected to benefit the Ronald W. The recent presidential election showed that many Americans are frustrated and angry because the American Dream of prosperity seems to be unreachable for them. They may no longer have a higher material standard of living than their parents or previous generations, as has been assumed since World War II.

FOREST — Heritage Christian Union Church, located at 15738 Ohio 37 in Forest, will hold its 2017 Winter Concert Series beginning on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. Special music will be from “Living Water” from Wharton.

I have been in Kenton for nearly two years now. I have discovered that the town is not that big.

DOLA — The Rev. Steve Ramsey will be installed as pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, Dola, in a special service of worship to take place the afternoon of Sunday, Feb. 19. The worship service will begin at 4 p.m., with a reception to follow.

FOREST — The Forest United Methodist Church, 111 E. Dixon St., will be honoring Carolyn Huston, the church’s organist of 28 years, following the 10:30 a.m. church service on Sunday, Jan. 22. The public is invited to help honor her.

MAYSVILLE — The Auglaize Free United Baptist Church will be hosting Bryan and Yvonne Hutson, vocalists, songwriters and speakers, at 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 22. The church is located 15 miles west of Kenton at 11890 Harding Highway (Ohio 309), Maysville.
