Greenwood celebrates sesquicentennial

Greenwood Grange gathered on Sunday, Oct. 13 to celebrate its 150-year anniversary. An open house was held from 1:30 – 4:30, along with a short program.

Karen Fulks, Lecturer, welcome everyone and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Elaine Hoover read “Do you Remember” facts that her father, Herschel Lotz, had read at the 100th celebration.  The Pleasant Township Trustees presented the Grange with a proclamation from the township congratulating them on their 150th anniversary. Sam Norris, trustee, presented the proclamation to Bob Wood, Greenwood Master. Ron Rogers, Trustee was also present.

The next presentation was from Ohio State Grange Master, Mike Russell, along with his wife Debbie in attendance. Bruce Kavanagh was present and shared with the group on how he found the Grange secretary minutes in an old antique cabinet he owned.

The “Reading of the Minutes” was read by Karen Fulks, which included the minutes of the first meeting on October 30, 1874, which was part of the discovery of books by Kavanagh. Fulks also shared other interesting facts from the late 1800s and early 1900s.

She thanked everyone who has contributed to the “150th Ancestry Campaign,” which has made it possible for the Grange to have new metal siding and be insulated before the celebration. Over sixty percent of the campaign goal has been reached and donations are still be accepted. Fulks closed stating the importance of all members from the most recent to the Golden Sheaf members, which includes Walter Baughman and Marilyn Pemberton, which both were present.

The program was closed with a benediction by Kevin Hoover. Refreshments were served.
