K9 officer killed Posted on November 4, 2015 0 MARION, Ohio (AP) — Police in central Ohio say a K9 officer camping with her police officer handler was accidentally struck and killed by a vehicle. Marion Police Chief Bill Collins says the death of Bella was announced this week with an “end of watch” notice like any other active officer death. Police say the K9 officer unexpectedly took off Sunday and ran onto Ohio 28 before being struck by a vehicle on the highway in Ross County in southern Ohio. Bella was one of three police dogs serving with the Marion department and began a 12-week training course in July. The dog had just entered service in August and had received state certification. Collins said the dog had been doing a great job out on the streets.
