ALGER -
The federal government is offering to assist the village of Alger with its flooding woes.
Drew Whitehair, of the Ohio Emergency Management Agency, told the Alger Board of Public Affairs Monday evening the village has been selected to participate in a study through the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The study could open the way for Alger to be eligible for FEMA funding to assist in resolving the persistent flooding problems in the town.
The first phase of the program, said Whitehair, would involve an engineering study of the problem.
"The study would collect data and create alternatives for the village," he said. "It would provide the village with six or seven feasible solutions that would fit Alger's needs and fit their budget."

Storm water, not sewage
caused concern in Alger

ALGER -
A report last month that the village pumped raw sewage into a parking lot in Alger was nothing more than the removal of storm water from an open hole, a village official said Monday.
Ron Polen, water plant superintendent, told the board of public affairs he had submitted samples of the pumped water for testing and the tests determined the water was not sewage. The water was from the rain which was falling heavily that day, said Polen.
The situation occurred when members of the board of public affairs began installing a bladder to block the sewage service at the home of Diane and Paul Myers for not paying their water/sewer bills. Water rushed into the hole dug by the village and was pumped into a parking lot across the street.

Ridgemont bats cooled off by Perry
RIDGEWAY - The Ridgemont softball team got behind early and couldn't claw its way back as the the Gophers fell to Lima Perry 7-3 at home on Monday.
Despite not recording a base hit, Perry was able to capitalize on seven Ridgemont errors in addition to walking seven times. Ridgemont's Morgan Mercer started on the mound and suffered the loss as she allowed five unearned runs in an 1 2/3 innings pitched.
Krystin Gibson relieved and let just two runners cross the plate the rest of the way but the Gophers failed to make up for the deficit.

Allen East rallies past Wildcats
Cody Barker got Kenton off to a good start on Monday, hitting a two-run home run off Allen East pitcher Nate Swaney in the first inning.
Unfortunately, the Wildcats weren't able to build off that start as Swaney shut them down the rest of the way and the Mustangs rallied for a 3-2 win over the host team in non-league baseball action.
Kenton falls to 2-3 on the season.
The Wildcats struck the first blow.
After Tyler Slonecker reached base on an error, Barker smacked a pitch over the left field wall to put the Wildcats up 2-0.
