Diabetic support offered
Hardin Memorial Hospital will hold a Diabetes Support Group meeting on Thursday, Jan. 24, from 7-8 p.m., in the hospital's conference room. The meeting is free of charge and open to the public.
According to the American Diabetes Association website, about 41 million people in the United States, ages 40-74, have prediabetes. Without life style changes, this condition can and will develop into type 2 diabetes. Hardin Memorial Hospital is presenting a Diabetes Support Group meeting on January 24 entitled "Pre-Diabetes". Benadette Coats, RN CDE, from HMH will be presenting important information and will answer questions regarding all aspects of pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes.
If you have diabetes, then your family members are at an increased risk for developing type 2 diabetes. Please bring family members or friends who are interested in learning how pre-diabetes is diagnosed, treated and most importantly, how to prevent it from turning into type 2 diabetes. Recent research has shown that some long-term damage to the body, especially the heart and circulatory system, may already be occurring during pre-diabetes. Don’t miss this opportunity to start the New Year off with positive changes to live a longer and healthier life.
The Diabetic Support Group is part of HMH's Diabetic Self-Management Program, which is directed by Bemadette Coats, RN, and Certified Diabetic Educator at HMH. This support group provides the latest information available on diabetes self-care, promotes wellness, and helps persons with diabetes prevent the complications of chronic illnesses related to the disease.
