Home destroyed
The house of Curtis Bishop, 19886 Ohio 67, was destroyed by a fire Saturday night. According to Forest-Jackson Fire Chief Doug Hankins, Bishop escaped the burning home, which is about four miles east of Kenton, by crawling out an upstairs window and jumping from the porch roof. The fire was called in at 10:14 p.m. The state fire marshal's office was called in when the local firefighters couldn't determine the cause of the fire and the source was undetermined at press time. Departments from Kenton, Mount Victory and Marseilles assisted in fighting the fire.

New deputy
The newest deputy in the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office is “Bill”. The 102-pound German Shepherd was trained in Germany and raised in Maine. The Hardin County Prosecutor’s Office used money generated through forfeitures in drug cases to purchase the padded suit to be used in Bill’s continued training. Pictured with Bill are (from left) Col. Ken Hilty, chief deputy with the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office; Deputy Elvis Varian, K-9 dog handler; Larry Gossard, of the prosecutor’s office and Brad Bailey, county prosecutor.
