Hardin County 9-1-1, three school districts set March ballot issues By DAN ROBINSON
Times staff writer
One countywide tax issue, three school district levies and four township taxes will be before Hardin County voters in the March 4 primary.
The county is asking for a replacement of a tax for the operating expenses of the 9-1-1 system. The .75 mills would run for five years if voters agree to the proposal.
Kenton City Schools will return to the voters with hopes of passing a bond issue for construction of a new K-12 campus, with the Ohio Schools Facility Commission providing funding for 63 percent of the building cost. Kenton's share of the project would be $25,025,966, or 9.14 mills. The issue was defeated 1,353 - 2,002 in the fall balloting.
An additional .5 mills will be part of the ballot language to provide operating expenses for the new schools. The total amount to be voted on is 9.64 mills. The bond money would be collected for 28 years, while the .5 mill operating expense would run continuously.

Kenton store employee charged after false report of assault and robbery By DAN ROBINSON
Times staff writer
The Kenton Police Department received a call Wednesday afternoon from an employee of the New Leaf Landscape Garden Center in Kenton saying she had been assaulted and robbed.
But when the police left, the store employee was the one in custody.
According to Chief John Vermillion, his officers responded to the call in which the worker, Tonda Adkins of 16010 CR 180, Kenton, said an undetermined amount of money had been stolen when someone entered the business and assaulted her.
The man then left the business, Adkins reported.
"She didn't say there were weapons involved," said Vermillion. "But she said she was physically assaulted."
As the employee's story began to unravel, the police officers determined Adkins had filed a false report to cover up her own involvement in the crime.

Buckeyes arrive in New Orleans NEW ORLEANS (AP) - For at least a few Ohio State Buckeyes, there was nothing easy about getting to the Big Easy.
Several players took a little longer to get to New Orleans on Wednesday to begin preparations for the Buckeyes' showdown against LSU on Monday night in the BCS title game.
Those who caught connecting flights in Chicago were delayed because of the snow and inclement weather which hit O'Hare Airport on New Year's Day.
However, by Wednesday night's deadline for being at the team hotel, the Buckeyes were all present and accounted for.
"Roll call is when they get here," coach Jim Tressel said Wednesday. "Some of the ones that were having trouble getting here we understand have just landed, so adjustments were made." (Refer to page 6 of today's Kenton Times.)
