Riverdale takes care of business in rout of Gophers

MOUNT BLANCHARD —
Riverdale head coach Jeremy Kloepfer said he wanted to come into Friday’s contest with a business-like approach. Well, not only did the Falcons take care of business, they gave Ridgemont the business by dominating the Golden Gophers, 50-0.
The Falcons improve to 3-0 on the season and Ridgemont falls to 0-3.
Despite winning 55-18 last week, Kloepfer said he felt the team was a little sloppy in some areas, but he said they really cleaned things up against Ridgemont.
“They did what I asked them to do this week,” Kloepfer said. “They went out with a business-like approach and they got it done.”
In this game, the Falcons were like Walmart moving into a small town and Ridgemont was like the mom and pop store who has no chance of competing with the bigger, better and more efficient approach of its stronger competitor.
Ridgemont head coach Ramon Kennedy said his team simply got overwhelmed.
“They are big and physical and that is what we’ve got to learn,” he said. “We’ve got to be a lot more physical and if we can do that there will be some victories down the road.”

SYCAMORE —
After a fairly competitive first half, the Riverdale boys soccer team scored three goals in the first 16 minutes of the second half to pull away for a 5-0 victory against Mohawk on Thursday.
Riverdale (4-1, 2-1 North Central Ohio Soccer Association) controlled the ball for most of the first half, but managed only a pair of goals before halftime.
But it was only a matter of time before the Falcons had a scoring burst to put the match away.
"It was just something I thought was going to happen eventually," Riverdale coach Jon Hayfield said. "We always like to score at the begining and end of halves if possible. ... They were defending well up until that point. Ryan (Musgrave) got his second goal on that one and then Jon (Grant) scored a pretty nice goal."
Musgrave got an easy goal in the second half, finishing off a shot by Ryan Keller that already got past Mohawk goalkeeper Alex Hossler and was headed in for a goal in the 44th minute.
Nine minutes later, Grant took advantage of a well-placed corner kick by Kent Weatherholtz and smashed the ball into the net.
Keller scored a beautiful goal in the 17th minute, arching a shot over the defense, including Hossler, from only a short distance inside of midfield.
"I think part of it was just wearing us down," Mohawk coach Rob Ochier said. "They're a good team. It's hard to keep Riverdale down. ... They started playing like they are able to do. Their skill just took over the game.

O-G takes control early against Lady Wildcats
OTTAWA — Ottawa-Glandorf controlled the pitch from start to finish in a 6-1 win over Kenton in Western Buckeye League girls soccer action on Thursday.
The Titans scored a minute into the game and added another goal ten minutes later, before the Wildcats finally got on the scoreboard on a direct kick by Mandy McCullough with 15 minutes left in the first half.
O-G quickly dispelled any doubt about the outcome of the game as it tallied two more goals in a span of a minute late in the half to go ahead 4-1.
The Titans put two tallies on the scoreboard in the second half.
"O-G is a solid team. They are easily one of the top three teams in the WBL and will certainly challenge for the league title," Kenton coach Mark Schwemer said. "They pass very well, know their positions very well and are a better team.
"When you have a team that's real disciplined in possessing the ball, it's hard to do something yourself. They did a good job of controlling the ball and keeping it out of our hands."

Tippecanoe defeated Ben Logan 6-2 on Wednesday night.
Tippecanoe scored only one goal in the first half, but erupted for five goals in the second half.
Tippecanoe's Cody Pricer opened the second half scoring on a corner-kick deflection. Ben Logan head coach Jamie Hughes felt that the second goal was the breaking point in the game.
"Once that second goal was there, we had to open up a little bit," said Hughes. That left the Raiders more vulnerable on their defensive half, he said.
Pricer finished the game with a hat trick, including a 30-yard bomb. Daniel Colvin also scored two goals for Tippecanoe.
With less than 18 minutes to play, Seth Henry scored Ben Logan's first goal on an isolation play to make it 4-1. Henry finished the game with his second goal with 1:38 to play in the game.
Even though Ben Logan lost, Hughes saw some positives in the Raiders' play.
"At times this was the best defensive game of the year," said Hughes. "Particularly the first half."
"We started to develop our identity tonight," said Hughes.
