Sea Dragons qualify for regionals

The Hardin County YMCA Sea Dragons swim team has qualified five swimmers for the Great Lakes YMCA zone regional meet in Bowling Green. That is the most to qualify for the regional meet in the team’s history.
The Sea Dragons swam at the Northwest Ohio Swim Championships where the team of Jaelynn Summit, Morgan Kohl, Baylee Beaman and Elaina Schaub qualified third in the 9-10-year-old division in the 100 yard free relay. And swimmer Maureen Gray qualified third in the 50 yard breast stroke.
They will be competing Saturday and Sunday at the Bowling Green Recreational Center.
Sea Dragons coach Emma Bushong said, “I am very proud of my team. They have worked very hard this year and all of them had goals of making it to zones and this year we were able to send five people so I’m very proud.”
The five Sea Dragons said it was an amazing experience to qualify for zones.
Summit said, “It feels really great to make it because I never made it to zones before. I started to cry.”
The swimmers are looking forward to the meet and the challenges that await them.
“I’m looking to get a better time and to just do really good,” said Gray.
Bushong is also looking forward to the meet and anxious to see her team swim their events.
“I want to see them swim against teams in the four-state area and see where we stack up against the competition,” she said.
“I just want them to swim as best as they can and no matter what place they end up in I am proud of them.”
