Graveside services for Robert Dwight "Red" Dyer will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Bellefontaine Cemetery by Pastor Larry Czeniak. Military services will be conducted by the Logan County Honor Guard.
There will be no visitation.
He died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine.
He was born Oct. 5, 1923, in Kenton to Emmit and Mildred Wroten Dyer. On Jan. 11, 1948, he married Lois Jean Allen in Greenup, Ky. and she survives.
Also surviving is a daughter, Valerie (Dale) Rhoades of Bellefontaine; two sons, Rick Dyer of Marysville and Wesley (Debbie) Dyer of Dublin; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Dwight) Newman, Michelle (Brian) Gearke, Alana (Rob) Harvey and Zach (Heidi) Rhoades; a step-granddaughter, Laynya Hammon; eight great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Elmo (Virginia) Dyer of Kenton and three sisters, Carolyn Lawrence and Peggy (Charles) Rogers, both of Kenton and Phyllis (Richard) Wamack of Mount Victory.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Charles, Russell, Tom, Omar "Johnny" and Hubert "Tank" Dyer and a sister, Dorothy Samples.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, first serving in the motor pool and later was transferred to the 104th Infantry and served in Germany, receiving the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
He was a truck driver and retired in 1982.
He was a life member of the D.A.V.
