Mauk tries to save college career in court
Cincinnati quarterback and Kenton native Ben Mauk is used to scrambling on the football field, but the legal scramble to save his college career began Thursday in Hardin County Common Pleas Court.
Coming just one day after the National Collegiate Athletic Association announced it was turning Mauk down for the fifth time in his appeal to secure a sixth year of eligibility, the Kenton High School graduate is taking his final shot by suing the NCAA. He is seeking a permanent injunction which would open the door for Mauk to return to the University of Cincinnati for one more season....READ MORE |

Riverdale pulls away from Mohawk
After a fairly competitive first half, the Riverdale boys soccer team scored three goals in the first 16 minutes of the second half to pull away for a 5-0 victory against Mohawk on Thursday.
Riverdale (4-1, 2-1 North Central Ohio Soccer Association) controlled the ball for most of the first half, but managed only a pair of goals before halftime.

O-G takes control early against Lady Wildcats
Ottawa-Glandorf controlled the pitch from start to finish in a 6-1 win over Kenton in Western Buckeye League girls soccer action on Thursday.
The Titans scored a minute into the game and added another goal ten minutes later, before the Wildcats finally got on the scoreboard on a direct kick by Mandy McCullough with 15 minutes left in the first half.....READ MORE |

R’mont residents weigh in on superintendent’s future plans
To some, Ridgemont Superintendent Bruce Gast wants to be a double-dipper. To others, he's a hard-working educator who wants to start drawing the pension he's earned during 35 years in education after the 2008-2009 school year.
Both opinions were expressed Wednesday afternoon at a special meeting of the Ridgemont Board of Education. It conducted a required public hearing on Gast's request to retire next summer and to be rehired as the district's leader.....READ MORE |

Ben Logan falls to Tippecanoe
Tippecanoe defeated Ben Logan 6-2 on Wednesday night.
Tippecanoe scored only one goal in the first half, but erupted for five goals in the second half.
Tippecanoe’s Cody Pricer opened the second half scoring on a corner-kick deflection. Ben Logan head coach Jamie Hughes felt that the second goal was the breaking point in the game....READ MORE |

Tractor, truck pull set
An estimated 7,633 people attended activities Thursday at the Hardin County Fair, according to Connie Oates, fair secretary. That is up from the estimated 7,224 of a year ago.
The paid gate was 1,363, up from 1,290. The harness races drew about 327 in the afternoon and 549 in the evening.
The highlight of tonight’s schedule is the tractor and truck pull, set for 6 p.m. in the grandstand.
